Sunday’s game in Miami will mark just the 13th time since 1971 that the Bears and Dolphins have played each other.The Bears and Dolphins do not have a rich history, but the Dolphins are responsible for the only loss suffered by Chicago during its historic run in 1985.
That evening the Bears lost by a score of 38-24 on the road. The two squads first met in 1971 and Miami won four straight against the Bears before Chicago won for the first time in 1988 by a score of 34-7 at Soldier Field. The two squads last met in 2014 with the Dolphins winning by a score of 27-14. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill completed 25 of his 32 passing attempts for 277 yards with two touchdowns, while Lamar Miller also scored one touchdown on the ground. Most notably, Bears defensive lineman Jay Ratliff recorded 3.5 sacks that afternoon.
Sunday’s game will be an important one for Chicago with a game against the New England Patriots lurking in Week 7 at home. A win on Sunday will also help the Bears hold onto their lead in the NFC North. The Green Bay Packers are currently in second place at 2-2-1 with the Minnesota Vikings also sporting the same record. The Detroit Lions are now in last place with a 2-3 record.
